Linhan Zhang 张琳晗

Program: PhD/Master in Ecology (2024-)

Research Focus:

Evolvability of gene regulatory networks

Bio:

I graduated from China Agricultural University in the summer of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Ecology. I am particularly interested in the adaptive evolution of regulatory networks and the underlying mechanisms. Currently, my research primarily focuses on the evolution of the GAL4 regulatory network. I am from Xuchang, Henan Province. I enjoy watching movies and reading film review articles, and I can play the Erhu.

Major: Ecology

Year: 2024

Research Project:

Study of urban yeast isolates

Bio:

I enjoy writing and often let my thoughts run wild with "imaginative musings." I am full of curiosity about the evolution of life and always feel that exploring life itself is a mysterious and fascinating journey.

I am truly delighted to join Li Lab and look forward to learning and exploring together with everyone.

I hope that throughout the upcoming research journey, I can always maintain my curiosity—embracing uncertainty while seeking my own sense of clarity and direction.

Major: Biology

Year: 2023

Research Project:

Genomics of urban yeast isolates; development of new network-perturbation tools

Bio:

I come from Xiamen, a city located in the south of China. During the first semester of my sophomore year, I learned about the research opportunities in Dr. Li’s lab and was fortunate to join the lab for research training. One of my current research interests focuses on investigating the genomics characteristics of yeast isolates from urban environments, with the goal of understanding how they adapt to and evolve under the rapidly changing and complex urban environments. Because Torulaspora delbrueckii was the most frequently isolated species during our yeast sampling efforts, the present analyses are primarily centered on this species. In parallel, I am involved in the development of a novel network-perturbation tool which enables high-throughput, targeted mutagenesis of transcription factor binding sites. We plan to apply this system to laboratory evolution of yeast strains to explore the evolutionary potential of gene regulatory sequences.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling and watching musicals.
